The White House Office of Environmental Justice Launches EnvironmentalJustice.gov 

EnvironmentalJustice.gov

The White House Office of Environmental Justice, within the Council on Environmental Quality, recently launched EnvironmentalJustice.gov.

This one-stop resource provides information on the Biden-Harris Administration’s actions on environmental justice and links to tools, resources, and funding opportunities.

The launch of this website was just one of many announcements in connection with the first-ever White House Summit on Environmental Justice in Action. You can learn about the other announcements here and view a video of the summit here.

150 Opportunities in Newly Launched Energy Communities AmeriCorps

Applications are now being accepted for the Energy Communities AmeriCorps. This newly launched program is part the American Climate Corps and is being led by Conservation Legacy, a longstanding AmeriCorps partner.

Opportunities are available in Appalachian Ohio, Eastern Kentucky, Illinois Coal Basin, Four Corners region, Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Wyoming, Virginia, and Southeast Montana

The goals of this program include:

  • Economic Development: Strengthening local economies by supporting new business ventures and job creation.

  • Clean Energy Transition: Facilitating the shift to renewable energy sources.

  • Environmental Remediation: Addressing and mitigating environmental damage in affected communities.

  • Capacity Building: Enhancing the capabilities of local organizations to sustain long-term development efforts.

Those selected will be placed with a local host organization and begin work in October 2024.

Potential projects include conducting community needs assessments, organizing public meetings, grant writing, outreach on tax credits and other resources to support economic development, educating residents about public health and safety hazards associated with abandoned mine lands, increasing public awareness about training and employment opportunities, and more.

American Solar Energy Society

Applications are currently being accepted for the Gene Clark Memorial Scholarship. This scholarship is administered by the American Solar Energy Society (ASES) and will award $1,000 to a graduate student with a strong interest in solar or related renewable energy fields such as business, research, engineering, architecture, journalism, law, finance, real estate, and/or policy.

This scholarship honors and recognizes the legacy of Dr. Eugene ‘Gene’ Clark (1943-2023), a trailblazer in the field of solar energy and a lifetime advocate for sustainable building practices.

$1 Million Twilio.org Climate Tech Prize

The application deadline is August 14 for the $1 Million Twilio.org Climate Tech Prize. This prize will award five winners with a cash prize of $200,000 each from the Twilio.org Impact Fund.

This prize, which is a collaboration between Twillo.org and Trellis, is designed to support actionable technology solutions that address immediate and enduring challenges faced by communities susceptible to climate-induced migration and displacement.

Organizations that are eligible to apply are any non-profit 501(c)(3), international 501(c)(3) equivalents that have obtained equivalency determination or operate under a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt fiscal sponsor, and for-profit organizations and their affiliates that meet the minimum requirements of:

  • At least four full time employees or full-time resources

  • Have demonstrated results in a real world application

  • Technology must be a central part of the solution
