Last Call! Deadline is July 15 for for Inaugural David B. Goldstein Fellowship

Applications are still being accepted for the inaugural David B. Goldstein Fellowship at the Institute for Market Transformation (IMT). This fellowship honors the legacy of David B. Goldstein, who championed energy efficiency and climate action throughout his career. He worked at NRDC for more than 40 years, helped pass federal energy efficiency legislation, helped create the New Buildings Institute, and co-founded IMT in 1996.

A 2002 MacArthur Foundation “genius award” recipient and the author of Saving Energy, Growing Jobs, David was also a dedicated mentor who supported the next generation of leaders entering the field. He served on IMT’s Board of Directors until his passing in 2024.

Inspired by David’s legacy, the Fellowship supports recent undergraduates as they transition into the clean energy workforce, providing experience in research and policy work focused on accelerating the decarbonization of buildings while benefitting communities.

Key details about this program include:

  • This is a full-time, paid 12-month fellowship.

  • The position pays $55,000 and includes benefits such as paid time off, matching IRA contributions, and professional development opportunities.

  • The role is remote, with the option to access IMT’s Washington, D.C. office space, plus occasional domestic travel.

  • The Fellow will support project teams across IMT’s Business Engagement, Policy, and Community Engagement teams through research, writing, and program implementation.

  • The Fellow will design and complete a substantial independent research project, guided and mentored by senior IMT staff, and present it to IMT staff at the end of the term.

Eligible applicants will demonstrate a commitment to IMT’s mission, be no more than one year out of undergraduate, and have the ability to work in the United States for the entire fellowship. IMT is looking for candidates with an interest in policy, energy, or sustainability; strong research, writing, and organizational skills; and the ability to perform self-directed work.

The application deadline is July 15, 2026, and applications are reviewed on a rolling basis, so early applications are encouraged. IMT plans to welcome its inaugural Fellow in Fall 2026.

Bloomberg Philanthropies Announces $590 Million in Climate Funding Commitments

During the recent London Climate Action Week, Bloomberg Philanthropies announced $590 million in new funding commitments across clean energy, ocean conservation, and clean air initiatives. This represents one of the largest climate-related philanthropic funding packages announced in 2026.

There were three specific funding announcements:

1.) $285 million to support efforts to accelerate clean energy deployment in emerging and developing economies through these mechanisms:

  • Strengthening clean energy industry associations and regional networks to better participate in energy planning, financing, and market design;

  • Supporting data, economic analysis, and technical research that demonstrate how clean energy can deliver reliable, affordable power at scale;

  • Providing technical assistance to help governments and regulators create market conditions that accelerate clean energy investment and deployment;

  • Partnering with financial institutions and investors to help unlock private capital for clean energy infrastructure.

As reported by The New York Times, groups that would be receiving funds include Ember, Global Energy Monitor, World Resources Institute, and the University of Maryland Center for Global Sustainability.

2.) $260 million to expand its Bloomberg Ocean Initiative. The funding will support efforts to advance the global goal of protecting 30% of the world’s ocean by 2030, including strengthening marine protected areas, supporting implementation of the High Seas Treaty, improving transparency, and expanding partnerships that support ocean conservation. The announcement brings Bloomberg Philanthropies’ total ocean conservation commitments to more than $635 million.

3.) $45 million to expand Breathe Cities, a global initiative led in partnership with Clean Air Fund and C40 Cities that works with local governments to improve air quality through data-driven policies and public health interventions. As part of this next phase, Addis Ababa and Madrid will join the 14 existing cities in the Breathe Cities network, bringing the total number of participating Breathe Cities to 16.
