Application Being Accepted for Inaugural David B. Goldstein Fellowship
Applications are now being accepted for the inaugural David B. Goldstein Fellowship at the Institute for Market Transformation (IMT). This fellowship honors the legacy of David B. Goldstein, who championed energy efficiency and climate action throughout his career. He worked at NRDC for more than 40 years, helped pass federal energy efficiency legislation, helped create the New Buildings Institute, and co-founded IMT in 1996.
A 2002 MacArthur Foundation “genius award” recipient and the author of Saving Energy, Growing Jobs, David was also a dedicated mentor who supported the next generation of leaders entering the field. He served on IMT’s Board of Directors until his passing in 2024.
Inspired by David’s legacy, the Fellowship supports recent undergraduates as they transition into the clean energy workforce, providing experience in research and policy work focused on accelerating the decarbonization of buildings while benefitting communities.
Key details about this program include:
This is a full-time, paid 12-month fellowship.
The position pays $55,000 and includes benefits such as paid time off, matching IRA contributions, and professional development opportunities.
The role is remote, with the option to access IMT’s Washington, D.C. office space, plus occasional domestic travel.
The Fellow will support project teams across IMT’s Business Engagement, Policy, and Community Engagement teams through research, writing, and program implementation.
The Fellow will design and complete a substantial independent research project, guided and mentored by senior IMT staff, and present it to IMT staff at the end of the term.
Eligible applicants will demonstrate a commitment to IMT’s mission, be no more than one year out of undergraduate, and have the ability to work in the United States for the entire fellowship. IMT is looking for candidates with an interest in policy, energy, or sustainability; strong research, writing, and organizational skills; and the ability to perform self-directed work.
The application deadline is July 15, 2026, and applications are reviewed on a rolling basis, so early applications are encouraged. IMT plans to welcome its inaugural Fellow in Fall 2026.
To learn more and apply for this fellowship, visit https://imt.org/about/jobs/
This program has also been added to the Green Jobs Network fellowship website climatefellowships.com. Thanks and good luck to those who apply!
Applications Deadline is June 25 for the 2027 Cohort of the TechCongress Fellowship
Applications are now being accepted for the January 2027 cohort of the TechCongress Congressional Innovation Fellowships.
TechCongress is a nonpartisan, independent 501(c)(3) nonprofit that recruits technologists to serve in Congress, bridging the divide between the technology sector and federal policymaking. Since 2016, the organization has placed 140 fellows with Members of Congress and Congressional Committees.
Fellows are placed with a Member of Congress or a Congressional Committee, where they apply their technology experience to a range of policy work, including researching issues like cyber and election security, data privacy, AI policy, and encryption; educating Members and staff; writing legislation; and preparing for Committee hearings and investigations. No prior government experience is required.
TechCongress is recruiting up to twenty fellows for this cohort, split evenly between Democratic and Republican offices, across two tracks:
Senior Congressional Innovation Fellowship (mid-career): For technologists with at least eight years of work or postgraduate study. Senior Fellows serve from January through December 2027 and receive a stipend of $100,600 and additional benefits.
Congressional Innovation Fellowship (early-career): For technologists with two to six years of experience (including a recently completed or projected graduate technical degree). Fellows serve from January through October 2027 and receive a $78,000 annual-equivalent stipend ($6,500/month) and additional benefits.
Applicants with 7 years of experience qualify for an intermediate tier with the stipend allocated based on relative experience, and may select both tiers when applying for the team to determine final eligibility.
This cycle, TechCongress is looking to expand the profile of its fellows beyond traditional technologists, with a goal of including fellows working in one of three verticals:
Climate & energy
Government innovation
Science, research, and innovation
The fellowship is a full-time position based in Washington, D.C.
The application deadline is June 25, 2026, at 11:59pm ET. To learn more and apply, visit https://techcongress.io/apply. Additional information is available via videos and FAQs that are available on the TechCongress website.
Training Spotlight: Free Access to IREC’s Apprenticeship Ready Online Course

Introducing “Sustainability of the Self”
Green Jobs Network believes that while the earth and its ecosystem need more care, the people who are engaged in this work need more care as well.
As one way to bring this perspective to life, GJN is launching a “Sustainability of the Self” newsletter feature to spotlight resources that can support the wellbeing of our community.
This edition’s spotlight is the Midweek Mindfulness Reset: a free 30-minute virtual session held on Wednesday from 11:00 – 11:30 am ET (with an optional 15 additional minutes for sharing and community building).
This is a free program hosted by the Thich Nhat Hanh Center for Mindfulness in Public Health at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, and is designed to help you reduce stress, calm your nervous system, and reset.
This program began on June 10, 2026, with upcoming sessions on June 17, June 24, July 1, and July 8.
Each session is led by a group of respected instructors, including monastics from the Plum Village tradition founded by Zen Master Thich Nhat Hanh. You can learn more about the instructors on the event page.
The sessions are held via Zoom and are open to all — no experience needed. To register for an upcoming session, click here.
If you have suggestions for Sustainability of the Self resources, send an mail to [email protected].
Good Green News: A New Book Tells the Story of How Los Angeles Cleaned Up Its Air
And a good news story to wrap up this issue — a new book Smog and Sunshine: The Surprising Story of How Los Angeles Cleaned Up Its Air documents the story of one of the great environmental successes of the past century: the cleanup of Southern California's air.
This book is written by Ann Carlson, a native of Los Angeles, professor of environmental law at UCLA, and former Acting Administrator of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
The story of the cleanup of Southern California’s air is significant. As noted here, from the 1940s through the 1980s, children in Los Angeles breathed air so heavy with lead that it poisoned their blood, and in 1970 officials declared smog alerts on 235 days. But the region's last smog alert occurred in 2003, and lead has virtually disappeared from the air.
In the book, Carlson shares the story of the scientists, community members, lawyers, and public officials who contributed to making change, and what the city's experience can teach us about addressing climate change today.
You can listen to Ann Carlson discuss the book on this episode of the Shift Key with Robinson Meyer podcast entitled “How Los Angeles Cleaned Up the World's Air Pollution” and you learn more about the book on the book's website.
